Google Takes YouTube to TV, Launches Leanback

YouTube has no doubt become the essential part of our daily dose of entertainment and with broadband speeds now faster than ever, it comes as no surprise to watch people hooked to this greatly loved site 24*7.  So for all those YouTube hardcore fans who find it too unwilling to part from their laptop screens, can now take YouTube to their living rooms and watch their favorite videos on big screens comfortably reclined on the cozy sofa. Google’s infamous video sharing site now brings for its users YouTube Leanback that according to the search giant is “all about letting you sit back, relax and be entertained. “

Leanback is Google’s attempt to give YouTube users a television friendly interface with easy navigation options and seamless access to their favorite video clips.  Revealed as a part of the TV version of the YouTube, Leanback works most effortlessly   with no mouse but dead-simple keystrokes to navigate through the videos.  Easing down the video hunt, it automatically generates video feeds according to YouTube settings and preferences, and including any subscriptions or videos friends are sharing on Facebook that appear as thumbnails scrolling below on the screen.

The actions are governed by the four arrow keys with the ‘down’ button used to open the navigation menu, where you can browse a collection of videos based on categories and ‘up’ to open up the quick search box.

Google last year launched YouTube XL, that was another stripped-down version of the site for larger screens. According to the company, Leanback is the next evolutionary iteration to Google’s prior efforts.

So is Google succeeding this time with Leanback? Lets leave that on future to decide. But how far are you ready to let a YouTube take over your TV screens? Will you give up on your favorite shows or probably video games for Leanback? Drop in your views at the end.
